The use of an animal companion as a pet to improve an individual's social, emotional, motivational or functional activities

Caution
  • Horses are expensive to run


  • Vet bills may be high


  • Most homes do not have enough space to harbour a horse, hence they are accommodated away from the primary house of ownership


  • Horse manure is usually copious and unpleasant


  • Accidents may occur during horse riding


Therapy for:
  • Stress


  • Paralysis


  • Supportive care for missing limbs


  • Low self-worth: Horses empower their riders


Comments
  • All breeds of (tame) horses are usually suitable 


  • Spending time with a horse is beneficial to mental wellbeing, without a compulsory need to ride on it


  • Disposing of an unwanted or a dead horse is often challenging
