These are the most common source of food energy. When taken in the right quality and quantity, they can have beneficial effects on the wellbeing. They are small, hard dry seeds that grow on grass plants called cereals. Corn, Wheat and Rice are the commonest examples

Caution
  • Some grains contain the gluten protein, to which many people may be intolerant


  • Refined grains have had the healthy outer part removed, leaving the carb-only interior. This is considered by nutritionists as being unhealthy
