COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
It is an illness that mainly affects the lungs. It is new and the first case was seen in November 2019. It has spread to most parts of the world (pandemic). It can get very serious quite rapidly and it has led to many deaths globally.
The symptoms of Coronavirus infection include:
-
Cough that is new and continuous
-
Fever (High Temperature)
-
Loss or change to your sense of taste or smell
Background
Infected people may not have some of the above symptoms but still be positive to Coronavirus. There are also other symptoms that include Sore Throat, Fatigue, Muscle Pains, Loss of Appetite and Chest Tightness. Most people would recover but the number of deaths are alarmingly high.
There is a delay between the time that a person is infected and the time they show symptoms of being unwell. This is called the incubation period. It can be as low as 5 days, but can sometimes be as high as 14 days. Many countries assume the average to be about 7 days.
About 20 million people have been infected worldwide and the number of deaths is closely approaching 1 Million.
